Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted on Friday by A Few More Pages. Want to play along? Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you would like, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence.
"Dr. Weiss, at forty, knew that her life had been ruined by literature."
~"The Debut" by Anita Brookner
This was a no-brainer for me. Being a 40-something woman who loves to read, how could I not be hooked by that opening line?
Hi!
ReplyDeleteThat would get me to read the book. Have a great day!

Luv, luv that opening line.
ReplyDeleteGreat first line, mainly because any reader can definitely relate to it! It also makes me want to know what her reasoning is to think that literature had ruined her life. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
