Book Beginnings on Friday

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme on Friday hosted by A Few More Pages. Want to play along? Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading. Include the title and the author. Then let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line and if you liked or did not like the sentence.

"Mi hai spaccato il cuore. You're reading a fairy tale in your evening Italian class when you come across this phrase."
~ An Italian Affair by Laura Fraser

I love this beginning. The title of the book basically tells you it's going to have something to do with Italy, but to actually start the book with an Italian phrase is genius. There are spatterings of Italian phrases throughout the book as well so it prepares you right away for what's ahead.

  1. This is definitely an unusual way to begin, but it does pique my curiosity.

    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Wow! That's different. Do you find out what that means or do you need to read An Italian Affair with an Italian dictionary next to you?

  3. Are there translations for the Italian? I'd be so confused.
