This past weekend, I watched the CBS Sunday Morning Show and one of the featured segments was the Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation. This wonderful organization provides families facing the loss of a parent a simple and much-needed prescription - a vacation. Children facing the imminent loss of a parent are given a time out from cancer. The family gets to spend cherished time together on a vacation creating memories that the children can carry with them after their parent is gone.
The foundation is blind to socio-economic status, color, race, religion. The only requirements are that the candidate have late stage limited life expectancy cancer, have at least one child between the ages of 3 and 18, have a life expectancy of more than two months, and be referred by a treating oncologist.
I love this organization. I think it is a positive, uplifting take on a bleak future. I made a personal donation to this foundation today.
