No Peace

R, my 6 year old, has allergies. We know he's allergic to dust mites (lucky me), but that's all they've found . . . so far. I suspect there's more going on because he has a constant sinus problem.

He was up coughing at about 2am last night for a good 40 minutes or so. Post nasal drip has become the enemy. He, and I, have no peace.

Every time I take him to the pediatrician or allergist, it's the same story: he has a sinus infection aggrevated by allergies. Okay. What do we do about it?

I try to stay on top of the dust situation in our home as best I can. He's been on numerous medications and nasal sprays, and there are weeks that go by when he's fine. But then the coughing or the sneezing starts. No peace.

He's not a sickly child, at least that's what I'm told by those with medical degrees. In my opinion, he's sick much too frequently. I don't remember being sick all the time as a child. I don't see other children as sick as he is either.

I just picked up a new nasal spray this morning to try out on him tonight. This stuff better work, too. It cost me $60 after insurance, but medical expenses are a topic for another day.

I realize things could be much, much worse and if post nasal drip is the worst of R's troubles, then so be it. I'll take it. But I'm a worrier. I want my children to be healthy and happy and rested. Right now, I have no peace.

  1. I connected to your blog awhile back through Musing Mondays, but haven't commented much since. So, I'm pretty much a lurker. But, Hi!

I've had similar issues with my boys and have recently discovered essential oils. I know I risk sounding irritating and like I might be the type of person to say things like, "Embrace the earth, man. Feel the love around you!" (Not that there is anything wrong with that.) But, we've found a lot of relief with essential oils. I was so tired of the stream of medications and nasal sprays that we were going through. As it turns out, some essential oils like eucalyptus and lavender can make things much better for us. Do some googling and research on essential oils and fighting colds/sinus troubles/coughing etc. There are lots of "recipes" out there that you might be interested in. The only specific recommendation I'll make is to get the oils from www.edensgarden.com. I don't work for them or anything, so the endorsement is pure. They are great, therapeutic grade oils at a much better price than you can find elsewhere.

Good luck, and here's to hoping you find some peace!
