• the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton
• the death of Osama bin Laden
• the 10 year anniversary of 9/11
• Hurricane Irene
• the shooting of US Representative Gabrielle Giffords
• Occupy Wall Street and its succeeding movements around the world
• the end of "war" in Iraq
