Musing Mondays

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Musing Mondays. This week's musing asks . . . Do you prefer character-driven stories, or plot-driven stories?

This one made me stop and think. I like both but I think I prefer character-driven stories. There has to be some quality about a character that appeals to me. When stories are plot-driven, I find multiple characters that I can't necessarily keep track of or find interesting. I need something to pull me in, and it usually is the character.

  1. This one required me to think as well - not something I was prepared for so early on a Monday morning ;) But I agree with you - strong characters certainly keep my interest in a book a lot more than the plot does.

  3. Without a good character, plots fail to make a good book... for me at least.

  4. It's a Catch-22 type of thing - without good characters, who cares what the plot is? But, if you have a great plot with characters you don't care about, what difference does it make? I think you need both.
